Curator’s Notes
‘2021.2′ by Jeremy Hawkes uses cool colours that speak of calm oceans. Wave upon wave travel through the teardrop toward the shore at its point. A vignette gently rounds the drop, showing the ocean captured in a single tear. The sharpened downward point aggressively pierces the paper. Does this show us the oceans turning on humanity in response to global warming? Our tears a result? Or does the endless repetition recall the days of isolation? Does it show a drop of vaccination liquid turning the warmth of infection to a cool, calming immunity?
